Understanding Purity Testing

Purity testing is a critical quality control step that determines the percentage of the target peptide in a sample versus impurities, byproducts, or degradation products.

Why Purity Matters

Higher purity correlates with more reliable and reproducible research results. Impurities can interfere with experiments, produce false positives or negatives, and complicate data interpretation.

Common Testing Methods

  • HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography): Separates and quantifies peptide components. Purity is typically reported as a percentage (e.g., 99%+).
  • Mass Spectrometry (MS): Confirms molecular weight and identity of the peptide.
  • Amino Acid Analysis: Verifies composition and ratio of amino acids.

Interpreting Results

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) from an independent third-party lab provides documented evidence of purity. Look for HPLC purity percentages, mass spec confirmation, and batch-specific identifiers.
